Happiness Meme, Day 6

28 01 2009

Today I am happy because everyone in the family is still healthy. It seems no one else caught the little man’s disease.

I am also happy because I have lost 8 pounds over the last two weeks or so (from 177 to 169 pounds). Only 2 pounds to go before I meet my goal of losing 10 pounds for Scale Back Alabama, a program I’ve been doing with some of my coworkers. I’ve been exercising more, eating better, and feeling better.

Cracker’s last album, Greenland, also makes me happy. I only found out about this one recently. It went under the radar somehow when it came out in 2006. Great album.

Now I’m off to try to write some words.

Glad to hear about the recovery.

I’ve been 170lbs since I was 17, more than half my life now. I don’t eat as much as I used to, back when I’d spend 3-4 hours in the weight room and bike out into the country. I set fitness goals. This winter, I’m working on push ups.

I normally don’t worry about weight so much. It’s just a number. But I did pack on a few over the holidays.

I wasn’t worried about you, but this emphasis on the number…

If people want to lose weight, why don’t they lose a limb? If they want to get healthy, there are no short cuts.

I feel the same way.

For example, that dreaded BMI # does not take into account muscle mass. A few of the guys at work I work out with on occassion all are overweight per the BMI scale, but not a single one of them is out of shape.

All the same, if the number encourages people to eat/live healthier, it ain’t all bad.
