Add them to my list…

28 12 2007

I used a gift card from a major retail bookstore my wife bought me for Christmas today. It was tough to select which books to buy. I was discouraged somewhat by what I found on the shelves. It seems the only books the chains really carry are movie tie-ins and series novels, especially in the various genre sections. If the novel doesn’t have a major publisher, i.e. Tor or Putnam, good luck finding it in stock. I looked and didn’t see any small or medium presses with books in the fantasy/science fiction section. It reminded me of why I do most of my book shopping/browsing online these days. None of the books I went in looking for were available.

Here’s what I ended up buying:

Thirteen Moons by Charles Frazier
Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein
Soldier of Sidon by Gene Wolfe
Shriek: An Afterward by Jeff VanderMeer
Fantasy: The Best of the Year, Edited by Rich Horton

I’ll add them to my ever-growing reading list.
