“Water, water, everywhere, and not a drop to drink…”

17 12 2007

I’ve officially entered the doldrums. I’m at the 30-something-thousand word point on my latest WIP. Writing a novel is a lot like setting out on a ship. It’s exciting watching the land recede behind you at the beginning; you grow ecstatic watching the land grow larger once you see that distant coastline marking the end of your trip. But there’s that part in the middle, where there’s nothing but sea all around you, no land in sight.

But if you keep sailing long enough in any one direction, you’re bound to find a shore, no matter how heavy the albatross around your neck. Sometimes there’s even a wedding party waiting for you.

….back to sailing….
